Why conflict is a goldmine for collaboration

You can feel the tension in the room, almost cut it with a knife. Power struggles, personality conflicts, disagreements about what should or could be done, values clashes, we've all been there, done that. It's difficult, it's time-consuming, and it brings productivity to a dead stop.

But only because we want to avoid it. Of course, it's uncomfortable!

Sweeping it under the rug doesn't make it go away, of course, it just festers and continues to contaminate interactions and outcomes. Sometimes it simmers at a low boil, and in some cases erupts into a really ugly explosion. And afterwards, still, nothing is resolved and the tension poisons everyone involved.

What if you knew how to take hold of the conflict and mine it for gold? Conflict is a direct catalyst for collaboration, when met head on, and in ways that (believe it or not) make everyone right, bring the possibility of removing logjams, restore respect and progress, and increase group (and individual resilience).
